Two MIT graduate student Sanjit Biswas and John Bicket along with Hans Robertson founded a cloud networking company Meraki in 2006 as a Roofnet project. Meraki offers software and hardware solutions for building large scale wired and wireless networks for organizations of all sizes. The company generally uses reasonably priced WiFi routers to build economical grassroots wireless networks in areas such as South America, India, and Africa.
Currently, Meraki has strong presence in 140 different countries, offering centralized management and security solutions via an intuitive web interface to over 18,000 organizations. The company provides its services for as low as $10 a month.
Sanjit Biswas, at age 15, was the youngest computer engineer hired by Oracle. In 2007, he was featured in the MIT Technology Review TR35, the top 35 innovators in the world below 35.
